IPS Tubing (Iron Pipe Size) For many years, copper tubing and heat-fused polyethylene piping represented the preferred connecting systems for LP gas installation. The 1992 edition of NFPA-58 now permits the use of mechanical joining methods for polyethylene piping systems. These revisions make NFPA-58 consistent with the natural gas codes which have permitted mechanical joining of polyethylene gas piping for many years.
