Bright white and light gray paint contain a mildew resistant additive. All tank coatings are available in a variety of colors in 12 oz. aerosol cans, 1 gallon cans or 5 gallon pails. Asphaltum, urethane tar and penetrol are also available. Surface protection is directly related to care in preparation before painting and the dry film thickness of coatings. A minimum of 4.5 mils (on smooth steel) on exterior of tanks is required. Excessive "sweating" of tanks and unusual damp environment requires greater film thickness to retard water and oxygen in the form of vapor from reaching the metal surface beneath.
